New Free Pattern: An Easy Beanie

I’m starting the New Year off with a bang, and I’ve got a new free pattern out on Tuts+ today! It’s for a basic beanie with a textured stitch pattern, knit in Cascade 220 on 5 mm needles. You can add it to your queue on the beanie’s Ravelry page.

Meet my cousin/roommate Carl! Tuts+ was looking for more crafting content that would appeal to guys, and I happen to live with one, so I asked him if he’d model for me and picked his brain on what he likes in a hat. Carl’s only opinion was that he liked hats that you could cuff, and that’s what I went with. I didn’t want it to be too flashy, but I also didn’t want it to be dull to knit, so the hat features a simple broken rib stitch pattern to add texture. I let Carl keep the hat after we finished taking photos, and it must have been a success because he wore it around all weekend after that. I hope you enjoy the new pattern!
