It’s that time of year, again! Every October I feature some horrible movies that are fun to knit to. Last year I featured bad vampire movies, and I liked having a theme, so this year I’ll be looking at classic horror movies from the 40s, 50s, and 60s. I have to give a shout out to two old movies that I’ve already featured, The House on Haunted Hill and Arsenic and Old Lace, because those are favorites of mine and would be on this year’s list if I hadn’t already written about them, but now onto some truly horrible movies!.
Ah, The Killer Shrews! The premise is delightfully 50s with a science experiment gone wrong. In a 30 second explanation, we find out that a scientist was working on an experiment to shrink humans in order to solve world hunger (if that sounds familiar, that’s because it’s a common cliche of resizing fiction that also happens in a few other 50s B-movies) using shrews as his test subject. He ends up creating giant shrews the break loose and take over the island his lab is on. Hilarity Horror ensues! The best/worst part isn’t even the ridiculous premise! It’s the special effects. They’re so silly!
