  1. I’ll be doing my knitting project during the week and my sewing project at the weekend when I have time. Even though I’m an experienced sewer I’m having a hard time. I’ve had to change my pattern once because I would have had to make too many adjustments to my first choice. I can’t sew during the week so this doesn’t help with things seeming to take forever. Thank goodness for knitting and I’m hoping to get going on that tomorrow if my swatch is ok!

  2. I start with the knitting, because I haven’t decided on the pattern for the dress yet and it’s easier to combine with studying for exams. I hope to swatch later this week after finishing my current knitting project.

  3. Hi. I’m doing them both at the same time but, as I usually only knit in the evenings, I expect to finish the dress way before the cardigan.

    1. Me too, both at the same time but knitting in the evenings and the dress will be done before the card. ๐Ÿ™‚ This is such a fun project btw!

  4. I’m starting my knitting project first, just thought it would be quicker plus portable as I’m hoping to take it to work to do on my lunch hour. I have set aside a long weekend to make a start on the dress. So excited by this challenge, just love the material and yarn I’ve picked ๐Ÿ˜€

huh. i have been waiting to start because i thought you guys were going to be guiding us through the process. are we just supposed to launch into it on our own?

    1. If you can be a little more patient, the first detailed post on knitting the cardigan will be up tomorrow. I don’t generally share meaty posts over the weekend because I’m not online for most of the day to answer questions.

well, that makes much sense! thanks and i am looking forward to it ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Starting the knitting project first, I’m going to need all the time I can get on it & probably as much help as I can get. Sewing is a no-brainer for me, but I’ve never knitted more than a scarf or doll blanket & that was many many years ago ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. Nicki

I’m ready! I have yarn, fabric and patterns ready to go, excited:-) Thanks for doing this, I know it is a lot of work!

  8. All ready! Will hopefully cast on and knit a few rows tonight. Will have to start my dress in a week or two though as I have a couple of things to finish first. Really looking forward to the OAL!

I’ll be starting my knitting fiestas I will be needing more time to come pelt that. Soooo excited! This is my first sweater!

    1. Rachel Mercado

Errr I meant *first as* not fiestas!

    2. Rachel Mercado

Also meant to say *knit that* . Sorry I typed this out on my phone, so I didn’t see the typos on my small screen, I guess:)

  10. I’m currently in the swatching process for my cardigan! Looks like we’ll be knitting on the same colour!

I just started the cardigan this evening. The dress will have to wait until later in the week – I’m getting the fabric tomorrow but then I have a lot of babysitting to do! I’ll probably cut it out on Saturday morning, although I have no idea what size I’m doing yet for my daughter who wears things in many different sizes and I think I need FBA but have no idea how to do that either.

Sounds like a lot of fun…

I am looking forward to this. This will be my first sweater. Since I have nothing to gauge my progress (haha), will you post a general guideline of how far along we should be by certain dates in order to finish in time?

    1. I hadn’t been planning on putting together a guideline like that because, realistically, this sweater doesn’t take two months to knit if you’re working on it regularly. The length of the OAL leaves some wiggle room in case you can’t make that happen.

  13. Probably knit first, sew later- I still haven’t selected a dress pattern!

  14. Johanna

Planning to start knitting my swatch tonight! Just came home from a work trip to find my beautifully packaged Miss Babs yarn. Will trace my sewing pattern later in the week.

  15. Jacqui

Ready to go with the knitting – my first adventure into actual garments! Will be knitting in the evenings and sewing a little on weekends if my small human stays busy!!

  16. Liza

Guess I’m starting with my dress, I can’t find the circ. I need for Myrna. I know I have several in that size, just not sure where. I think gnomes may have made off with them all. Or they maybe hiding in abandoned projects…naaaah! ๐Ÿ˜€

  17. Definitely the sweater – I’ve actually already started my red Chuck. ๐Ÿ™‚ Knitting takes so much longer than sewing, so I’ll need the full 2 months!

  18. Charlotte

I’ve started my cardi – just got up to the rejoining the whole back after making the big eyelet. I promised myself that I wouldn’t start anything new until I’d got another project finished. So this has helped me to finish something else as well as starting something exciting!

I’m going to iron my fabric and get my dress pattern out tomorrow.

  19. I am still searching for the right colour yarn, but hope to start both this week. I sew earlier in the evenings and then knit while watching TV!

  20. Megan

Sewing first. We are moving soon (but no dates yet, ugh the army is super frustrating!) so I need to finish sewing before the pack out. Knitting will come second because the equipment is much easier to put in a bag and fly across the country! But I will do my gauge swatch pretty soon so I keep a few needles.

  21. The knitting project is started first, but mainly because knitting takes longer than sewing. So far I’ve cast on and knit one row.

  22. Elizabeth

Since I won’t be able to do this I’m looking forward to seeing what every one else has done. I hope there will be lots of pictures! ๐Ÿ™‚ I used to sew all my clothes years ago but illness has taken it’s toll and I can’t do what I used to do. However, I try to knit as much as I am able but not to the extent of trying to keep up with a KAL. Wishing you all the best of sewing and knitting! Have fun! ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Savage Tribal

I’m dubious about that myself – had an op last year and my immune system seems to be taking a long time recovering from it.

Two months is a long time though and short sleeves – it’s always the sleeves where I tend to give up and go onto something else ๐Ÿ˜€

  23. I started the muslin for the dress first, as I haven’t received my yarn yet (should get it within the week, fingers crossed! :))…but I guess my knitting will catch up with my sewing pretty soon as I don’t think I’ll have the time or space to sew next weekend!
Anyway, I hope I’ll be able to finish both garments before the deadline!

  24. I started my knitting first, because it’s portable and my upcoming week or two are much more conducive to a portable project. I’m also rethinking the rest of the outfit, but my cardigan is totally set in stone since I’m in love with my yarn and this pattern ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hi Andi,
I am wondering if you’ll be putting up some posts with some extra instruction for the tricky bits of the sweater? For me, those are short rows, picking up stitches to knit, and button bands; I’ve never been able to do those as beautifully as I’d like. I’d love some extra tips on those parts especially! Thanks ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. I’ve got a post planned on picking up stitches, but I don’t have plans to go into a lot of detail about short rows. Making beautiful short rows really just takes practice.

      1. Megan

Good to know, thanks! I’ll look forward to the post on picking up stitches and maybe work some practice short rows on my own. I hope you have a lovely weekend!

  26. Sharon Robinson

I started with knitting cause I cant sew when I’m away on vacation:)
