A New Hat Project

When Kate from Spincycle asked me if I’d be interested in designing something with their Dyed in the Wool yarn, I got excited but also a little nervous. Their yarn is gorgeous, but some years ago I swore off buying anything other than solid and semi-solid yarn because it just lingered in my stash. Multicolored yarn is so beautiful in the skein, but I had a hard time figuring out what to do with it so I just started to avoid it. But I decided it would be good to challenge my design skills, so I went for it.

Spincycle happened to be in Seattle for Urban Craft Uprising, and I got to see all of the yarn in person and pick out some to work with. I happened to be wearing my Aiken that day, and naturally I was drawn to this beautiful pastel skein called “Idle Nights” that matched my outfit. Kate suggested that the yarn might look good paired with a solid for some colorwork, and when I sat down to work with it, I remembered a colorwork hat idea I had been dreaming about. The design idea and this yarn are a perfect match for each other, and a skein of Cascade 220 Sport was the missing piece of the puzzle. I’ve just started the fun colorwork bit, and I can’t wait to show you what this hat is going to look like. I’m really excited about the colorwork chart and how this yarn is working up.
