Orange Cables

Do you craft when you’re sick? I had the flu and I barely touched any yarn for a week and a half. My crafty inspiration came back with a bang when I started feeling better and I’ve started swatching for a new sweater.

I’ve always loved this cable from Barbara Walker’s Second Treasury of Knitting Patterns. I’ve had the page marked for years, but I never got around to doing anything with it because I found cables to be too warm. Now that I’m on my second year of living in old drafty buildings, I’m reevaluating that opinion. I’m thinking of running this cable down the center of a pull over. I might add a few more panels of cables or texture, but I don’t want to detract attention from this awesomeness.

  1. It is a lovely cable. I don’t have any Barbara Walker books, so I haven’t seen it before. I think it would definitely stand out in a center panel.

  2. That cable is really interesting, I haven’t seen it before. Some kind of geometric texture alongside it might look good…

  3. I don’t usually feel energetic to do much when I’m ill but funny enough I’ve had flu like for the past days and the only things I’ve managed to do is knitting. I think it’s because it’s quite repetitive. Mind you, it’s is a simple stockinette stick so that’s why not much concentration is needed.

That is a lovely pattern, can’t wait to see what you come up with.

  4. Ugh. I can never knit when I’m sick. That’s how I know I’m REALLY sick.

  5. Ahh that’s the cable I’ve been dreaming of for some fliptop mittens!

And I sometimes craft when I’m sick, it depends on what kind of sick it is. If I’m nauseous/have a horrible headache/can’t keep my eyes open, then I don’t. But otherwise it’s usually a productive time for me. Feel better!

  6. When I’m really sick, there’s no way I’m knitting or sewing. Not enough energy! I’m glad you’re feeling better, and I heart your new orange cable!

  7. Oh, I looove that cable! Color is great, too, a nice pick-me-up when you’re not feeling well!

  8. That is a beautiful cable! I definitely knit when I’m sick, unless my head is actually in the toilet. 😉

  9. Aww, I’m sorry you were sick! But happy that you’re getting better 😀

  10. Wow, that is a really pretty cable. And an awesome color! Hope you feel better soon!

  11. Yum! You got my attention! Can’t wait to see more!

  12. The last time that I was sick I had to put the hooks away but usually I do craft when I’m stuck in bed ill. Lovely cablework.

  13. That is gorgeous. I haven’t looked enough at the cables in that book. I need to revisit it I think.
