It actually looks like a sleeve now! I finished the short rows and have gotten through the first two of 9 sets of decreases. I might actually finish this sweater in under a year and a half. I’ve been making jokes that this sweater was going to take me two years to knit because I seem to pick it up every couple of months, finish a section, and then forget about it for a bit.

You might remember that I was worrying about the sleeve length after I finished the first sleeve. It was a good length, but it was longer than I expected and I was afraid that it would grow after I washed the sweater because my swatch grew in length. Well, it turns out that I knit an extra decrease repeat so my sleeve is longer than it was meant to be. I’m trying to decide if I want to rip back the first sleeve and make it slightly shorter or if I want to knit the second sleeve the slightly longer length that I like and risk having to rip back both sleeves later.

  • That’s a tough one since the sleeve is a 3/4 length anyways. I think I would match the sleeves as is. When blocking, I’d just be rather careful not to pull the sleeves. If you did have to rip back, I’d only lift the cuff an inch or so. Blocking shouldn’t make it grow more than that unless you are using pure alpaca or cotton.

  • Rip it! You don’t want to have to rip out TWO after it stretches!
Block it so that it sits where the finished one does now and you’ll be all set. It looks fab by the way!

  • I too am working on troubling sleeves and I decided to rip both back and started over using the magic loop technique. I had both sleeves finished but one was 2 inches wider than the other…. I am aiming to finish this by 9/26, I bought the yarn six months ago as a birthday gift to myself. Good luck!

  • I actually like the length of the first sleeve, but yeah, if it doesn’t work for you, I’d rip now and only knit the second sleeve once! The sweater looks awesome so far. Ack. I’m mad I haven’t been able to start this one yet.
