Get out your favorite yarn and needles! The Fall KAL is around the corner.
We put this KAL to the vote in the Untangling Knots group on Ravelry, and the winner was to knit Salal starting a little late in the season. Salal was originally published in the Mild Weather 2016 issue of Standed Magazine, but it’s now available individually through Untangling Knots. The pattern is 20% off leading up to the KAL when you use the coupon code SALALKAL at checkout on Ravelry.
The Salal KAL starts on October 15th, giving you a full month to pick out yarn. The original sample is knit in Cedar House Yarn Old Growth Worsted, which is a worsted-weight superwash yarn. Salal is a fun project to knit in a semi-solid yarn like this because the abstract lace plays nicely with the color variations.
You’ll have until December 1st to finish your Salal, plenty of time for a cropped cardigan knit on US 7 / 4.5 mm needles. Salal is knit seamlessly, starting with the upper back. The fronts are picked up and knit in a lace pattern, which is gradually replaced with stockinette to form a triangle shape. Stockinette set-in sleeves are picked up and knit from the finished body and shaped using short rows. 1×1 rib finishes all of the edges. Salal comes in seven sizes, ranging from 29 – 53 in / 74 – 135 cm finished measurements, and fits best with 1-4 in / 2.5-10 cm of negative ease.
The KAL is being announced earlier in advance than I typically do because I’m going to be unavailable the first two weeks of October, so if you’ve got questions, now is the time to ask them! Join us in the Untangling Knots group on Ravelry for KAL chit-chat, and please use the hashtag #SALALKAL on social media to connect with other knitters.
