Marion #2

Here it is, two weeks late. I finished my Marion only a day after the KAL officially ended, but since I had already missed the deadline, I took my time weaving in ends and attaching buttons. I usually put my KAL projects in the fun-knitting category because they’re a lower priority than projects for new patterns, and this project sadly got pushed aside a few too many times. But it’s done now, and I love it!

I used Sincere Sheep Shepherdess yarn in the color Cumulus, and it’s wonderfully soft and bouncy. I knit the sweater without any mods, and I didn’t even bother alternating my skeins. I was a little worried about the last skein I used for the second sleeve because it was a bit lighter than the one I used for the first sleeve, but I don’t think you can see the difference unless you fold the sweater so that the sleeves touch.

The buttons are ones that I’ve been hoping to use for a long time. They’re vintage Chzech glass buttons that I bought at Bazaar Girls Yarn Shop in Port Townsend on my knitting group’s annual retreat last spring. They’re beautiful, and they’ve been waiting around for a cardigan with five button holes of the right size. They were too small for the other cardigans I’ve knit this year, or there were too few buttons, but my Marion was a perfect match!

  1. Better late than never. Your Marion looks lovely. I had to put mine to the side as well and am hoping to bet back to it soon. How wonderful that you were able to use vintage buttons that you already had in your stash. I just love it when that happens.

it is lovely, your KAL was my first ever and i love my Marion..:-)….since then i joined a sew-a-long..getting the hang of it..i really enjoy it..so now i actually have 1 knitting project (susan crawford’s christmas sweater) and 1 sewing project (the sew-a-long) in progress…normally i just do 1 project at the time, but knitting and sewing seems to work..(2 sewing or 2 knittingprojects usually both turn out bad, so am not doing that anymore…)…

    thanks for nice KAL…:-)

  4. Beautiful! I love those buttons too-so glad you got to use them. I had a lot of fun with this KAL 🙂

That’s a really cute sweater! Gosh, I really need some more cardigans. I’d better look this one up!

  6. I’ve heard the phrase before but don’t know what it means; what did alternating skeins mean?

It looks great, and like it will go with at much in a nice neutral colour

    1. Alternating skeins is pretty much what it sounds like. You work a few rows with one skein, and then you work a few rows with another, and you continue on like that. It breaks up pooling and hides color inconsistencies that happen with certain dyeing techniques.

  7. I really like Marion in this colour, it looks great.

    1. Thank you! It’s getting a lot of wear.
