When I wrote this post on my Oblique cardigan after a years worth of wear, I intended to do it with all of my sweaters. Unfortunately, none of the sweaters I knit between that one and this one are here with me in England so I kind of forgot about it. Today’s topic for Knitting and Crochet Blog Week is where an old FO is now. It reminded me of my old FO update posts so I thought I’d do one of those!
My Fair Isle sweater is conveniently about a year old now. I finished it at the end of last March. When I made it last year, I really thought I wouldn’t wear it very much. At the time I had very few options to wear with it. All of my jeans were low rise and most of the things that did hit me at my waist had full skirts which just looks awkward with a drapey sweater like this. Now I own nothing low rise and have a ton of options. I wear this sweater quite a bit. My favorite way to wear it is probably the way I did today with my wide legged jeans and my bomber jacket.
I actually wish I had more light weight sweaters with short sleeves like this. I’m really looking forward to A Stitch In Time Vol. 2 (this was from Vol. 1) so I can make more tops like this one. It’s so comfortable. I’d wear it more than I already do if I had somewhere convenient to lay it flat to dry.
I knit the body using Rowan 4 ply soft which is unfortunately discontinued. It wears amazingly. There is absolutely zero pilling on this sweater. It looks just like it did the day I finished knitting it. It’s so soft and it drapes wonderfully, but the ribbing stays elastic. The only bad thing is that it creases really easily. It gets fold lines when I lay it flat to dry and it gets wrinkly in my drawers. That really is the worst thing about the yarn and it doesn’t bother me in the slightest. It’s a bummer that they stopped making it.
