Picking Up Stitches for Vianne’s Fronts

When you pick up and knit the stitches for Vianne’s fronts, you want to pick up one stitch per stitch along the cast-on edge. This allows the lace panels on the front to line up as close as possible with the lace panels back. Here’s where you should be picking up stitches and the direction you should be working in.

Fresh off your needles, the bias of the mesh is pretty extreme, but it will become more subtle when you block out your sweater. Just stretch out your upper back a little to see how the back neckline straightens up a bit when the mesh is more open.

I am always astonished at how fast you knit. How much time do you spend knitting on a project in a day? I love this sweater and think it’s a great design. I’d love to make it but I’ve only made one cardigan for my granddaughter and it’s taken me since March and I still have to finish the arms. I have a lot of time on my hands so it isn’t a matter of not having the time. It’s just tedious at times even though I love to knit. I do have a few of your patterns but they seem daunting to this sweater newbee. I haven’t tried making one yet but I would love to. I’m just a bit intimidated when I get the pattern and read it. Maybe I’m just not confident enough.

    1. I probably spend at least a few hours knitting everyday, but it’s hard to guess. I knit whenever I get the chance, even if it’s just a few stitches here and there.

This is my second cardigan…. yes, on the first read, the instructions are a bit scary. But as you start to work them, it gets easier. It helps to make up a matrix to check off each row as you knit. Go ahead and give it a try. The fronts work up very quickly.
