Me Made May Days 1-2

I’ve always wanted to participate in Me Made May, but wearing at least one piece of handmade clothing everyday during a warmer month seemed kind of impossible. Although I wear handmade clothing everyday in the winter, I don’t make myself warm-weather pieces very often. On Twitter I was muttering about how I need to sew more, and I added up how many handmade garments I had that you could wear on a warm day. I’ve got 3 cotton skirts, 1 cotton dress, 3 wool short sleeved pullover sweaters, 1 wool cardigan with short sleeves, 2 cotton cardigans, and 2 knit crop tops. That’s 12 pieces, 5 of which I made in the past year, and I started to wonder if maybe I could manage Me Made May this year. Even if the weather stays warm and I can’t wear any of my cozier pieces, which is unlikely because this is Seattle, 12 pieces is enough that it will be a manageable challenge. It should be fun, and it will get me to wear separates more often and shake up my dress + cardigan routine. I’ll be doing daily outfit updates on Instagram and occasional posts of them here.

It’s been bizarrely warm for the beginning of May, so my crop tops seemed like a good choices. Yesterday I wore my yellow and orange crop top with a midi skirt I found at the thrift store. Today I’m wearing my red crop top with an old pencil skirt from H&M and a store-bought cotton cardigan that used to belong my mom. Are you participating in Me Made May? Do you have makes garments for every season of the year?

I am participating in MMM14 but, I have the same dilemma. I don’t own many handmade warm weather garments. And since Zo mentioned using this challenge to finish up things, I am going to make my yellow skirt that I had put off for about 2 months (So, technically I am adding something in the mix.) I do plan on wearing some of my wool cardigans but, I don’t think I am going to add any knit pullovers into the mix (too suffocating). The majority of the time I am in really cold environments so I wear my lightweight cardis year round. I have 10 cardigans, 2 skirts, 3 crochet pullovers, 1 hat, 4 crochet collars, 2 crochet bibs, and miscellaneous accessories.

This is a great challenge for helping me realize where I am lacking in my wardrobe. Hopefully, next year I will have more items to add.

    1. I agree that it’s a great way to figure out what’s missing from a wardrobe. I really don’t make myself enough summer stuff either.

I’m looking forward to seeing all of your outfits. I love you style.

  2. Oh man, I am wishing I had those crop tops right now! It’s in the 90s in San Luis Obispo and I’m melting!

  3. You are a total MINX! You should wear crop-tops every day.

    1. Haha! It’s a little too cold in Seattle for that!

  4. I’ve never heard of Me Made May! But I don’t nearly have enough garments to wear, although I am finishing up three knitted tee’s at the moment.. Maybe next year. The crop tops look great!
