Last FO of 2012

poi01

This sweater was my last FO of 2012, and I knit it in about a week and a half. It was fast to knit because the construction meant that it was a pretty mindless knit so it was easy to drag around to all sorts of fun holiday things. But speed wasn’t something I had in mind when I came up with this sweater. There were three big things I had in mind while planning it. First, I another pullover. I wear Chuck all the time. Second, I wanted to use the yarn in my stash from my frogged project. That’s where the colorwork placement came in. And third, I wanted to try out a new seamless set in sleeve method.

I borrowed the neckline shaping from Chuck, and I sort of used the armhole shaping, but instead of using short rows for my sleeves, I worked them at the same time as the body. I understood the concept behind simultaneous set in sleeves, but I had never tried them before, and it was fun to give them a try. I have mixed feelings about them, but I think I’ll give them their own post some time next week.

This isn’t my favorite sweater I’ve ever knit, but I think it’ll get worn quite a bit. I keep finding more and more things in my wardrobe that it goes with, and I think this sweater will end up being a good winter basic.

    2. If this is not your favourite sweater, then what is your favourite?

    1. FO stands for Finished Object. It’s crafter slang. I think Chuck might be my favorite sweater this winter. I wear that one a ton.

This is stunning! Will you make the pattern available at all?

    1. I don’t have plans to at the moment. I’m not satisfied with the sleeves and would need to knit a new sample that I’m happier with. I have higher standards for what I’ll publish compared to what I’ll wear, and I don’t want to encourage people to use a technique I don’t think was the best choice or have people end up with sweaters they don’t love.

  14. I think it’s lovely… The colours are so cool! I’m looking forward to hearing about your sleeve method too.

  15. Love the colours, especialy the little triangle detail. Hope you do a post about the sleeve method, sounds interesting. What needles did you use for this?

    1. Just 5mm needles. That’s what I generally use with worsted weight yarn like Cascade 220.
