Happy Birthday to the Blog! + A Giveaway

It’s my blog’s birthday! I started this blog 3 years ago so I had somewhere to talk about knitting. I always forget my blog’s birthday because I didn’t really post regularly until about 10 months after I started it. It’s gone through a lot of changes since then including 3 face lifts and one big move over to my own domain. There have been a few identity crises, but I’m happy that this blog has been around for so long. Happy Birthday, blog!

Since it’s my blog’s birthday and I released this pattern not too long ago, I thought it would be fun to do a little giveaway of a copy of Agatha to celebrate. To enter just leave a comment. To keep things interesting, tell me what you love about knitting blogs. It could be about writing your own or reading them. The contest is open until next Wednesday the 19th at 1 AM PST.

  1. I love reading knitting blogs because they’re inspiring! And I like sharing mine because, in my daily life, there aren’t really any other knitters and it makes me feel connected to the group.

I love this pattern, I’m wanting to make a full-length version!

  2. I love reading knitting blogs because I suck with color. Like, straight up SUCK. I knit things in neutrals (mostly grey and black) and seeing knits in bright, happy colors makes me want to switch things up a bit. I also love them because I’m introduced to new techniques that might improve my skill!

  3. I love knitting blogs because you can make your own fashion and I can see people’s individual creativity. Though I have to admit your blog is the only knitting blog I follow on a regular basis.

I also love incorporating knitting tips in my own blog ๐Ÿ˜€

  4. Awwww, congrats on 3 years! I think I’ve been reading your blog for almost 2 years now?! Crazy to think about.

I love reading knitting blogs for the inspiration and the knowledge share. I can’t tell you how many great patterns or techniques I’ve come across in reading what others are working on. I read your blog, specifically, because I love your unique voice & style! Thanks for your bloggy friendship!

  5. Wow, 3 years! I can’t say I’ve been blogging regularly but I have been reading yours for a long time now. I love knitting because it makes me feel productive, I can spend hours watching tv and not feel bad about it because I am also making a hat that I can show off later, etc. Congrats again ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Congrats on 3 years of blogging. I love to read blogs about knitting and craft, and sad that so many have now stopped altogether. Your cardigan does look gorgeous – I could imagine my sister wearing that and it would be perfect for her birthday next year.

  8. I love reading knitting blogs for a few reasons. Inspiration, pictures and getting to know the knitter/blogger a bit from their blog. Congrats on the blogiversary! ๐Ÿ™‚

I love your Agatha pattern…and it comes in my size (I’m plus-seized). YAY!

  9. Happy blog birthday! I love seeing all the different interpretations of patterns on blogs, the way one project can look so different in a range of yarns/sizes/people adding little changes

  11. Happy blog birthday. Congratulations on three years.

Like most other people I like reading knitting blogs for inspiration and seeing how different patterns can work with different yarns. Also, it is nice to communicate with people with a similar interest. Knitters are few and far between here ๐Ÿ™‚

  13. Happy blog birthday! 3 years is quite a long time.

Reading knitting blogs makes me feel all warm and cozy. I just love seeing how people pair up patterns with yarn. I even love reading about the knits that don’t turn out so great. It makes me feel a touch better knowing that I’m not the only one that has to rip back and try again.

  14. Happy birthday to your blog Andi!

Here in the ‘real world’ I don’t know anyone who is even vaguely interested in knitting. Blogging about knitting and reading knitting blogs is my only real contact with other knitters.

  16. Congrats on the blog birthday!
I love knitting blogs so much and I have my own also. The most exciting thing about blogging is that I can communicate with peoples around the world and who shared my passion about knitting!
    Hugs!

  17. Happy blogiversary!

What I love about knitting blogs? Part inspiration (y’all are so inspiring!), part knowledge share, but mostly because I don’t know too many knitters IRL and it gives me a chance to be a part of a community that I wouldn’t otherwise have.

  19. Happy blogday!

Blogs are great for finding knitting tips you never knew existed before, but what I really like is finding people with similar tastes and reading through their blogs for pattern ideas. I’ve found just about everything I’ve knitted recently that way!

  20. I love reading knitting blogs becos it makes me feel like I’m a part of a crafty secret society. Seeing other knitters’ works and creativity really is inspiring.

Happy bloggy birthday! Here’s to many more!

    Happy blogday!

Reading knitting blogs is a bit like watching a soap opera. I just want to know what will happen next! It’s so much fun to see projects transform from yarn to finished product, with all the steps and setbacks and achievements along the way.

  24. Knitting blogs challenge me to be a better knitter and think outside the pattern. They encourage me to be daring and creative and just try something different.

I love reading knitting blogs because I love to see all the cool things that can be made with a couple of needles and a ball (or 4! LOL) of yarn. I’m still learning how to do “traditional” knitting. I use a knitting loom for most of my projects.

Would love a copy of the pattern! Would give me something to work towards with learning how to knit!

  27. Great! I really like you blog ๐Ÿ™‚
What I like about knitting blogs is the inspiration I get from reading and challenges to try out new things. I don’t have that many friends that are in to knitting, so it’s nice to see that there are other people around with similar interest!

I love looking at pictures of what people have knitted/designed. Your photos are great!!!

  30. Happy birthday, blog!
Blogs were what really got me into knitting. I started out with not much more than the ability to purl and an incessant need to do things right, which was really frustrating when I had no idea what I was doing, and reading knitting blogs really helped me push forward as a knitter. I saw what other people were doing and felt challenged and inspired and completely in over my head, which made me want to try new and scary things. Knitting blogs changed the way I think about creativity.

I love knitting blogs because they always inspire me to try harder at knitting, and also, I just love to read what everyone has got on their needles!

  34. Hi, Andi! And happy birthday to your blog!

I love knitting blogs because they bring the process and joy of making into focus in an age when we have mostly to do with finished products. And you can learn so much from knit bloggers! It’s amazing. Personally, for me, the greatest gift of knit blogs is helping me overcome perfectionism and accept and learn from mistakes.

    All the best,

    M

    Happy Blogiversary!
I love reading knitting blogs mostly for the inspiration… I am always amazed at what the knitters in the world are capable of! I also enjoy getting new tips & tricks from these blogs…for example; your mini series of CO’s, BO’s & buttonholes has been very helpful to me! Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

  37. Happy blog birthday!

I love reading a few knitting blogs here and there (like yours) because it keeps me inspired and informed about what’s going on with knitting even though my chosen craft is crochet.

I love to see finished pieces on other peoples’ blogs. This definitely helps to inspire me and keep me motivated.

I love knitting blogs because of the ‘cross-pollination’ of patterns and yarn that I hear about outside of my friends and local knitting buddies! Thanks for the opportunity to win!

I love knitting blogs because I get to read about yarn and knitting and projects and patterns and all of my favorite things ever. Congrats! It’s now officially a long term commitment blog!

I recently got obsessed with knitting blogs. I always read back to the very first post – speaking of commitment! I have only been knitting a short time and find the blogs to be informative and inspiring. I have never knitted a sweater before but recently ordered yarn for one after reading knitting blogs. So many amazing FOs. I am so impressed what people can create.

  50. I don’t know anyone my age that knits, so knitting blogs have really helped me to find the more experimental side of knitting and find patterns that are more suited to me in my 20’s than the ones you generally find in stores. And feel kind of awesome about knitting in general. And my own knitting blog is a place to say ‘hey i made this myself!’ and feel proud of stuff I’ve done without feeling like I’m showing off (or someone’s nan).

  52. Congratulations! I like knitting blogs for the photo-inspiration, and because I so often learn something new! I don’t know many knitters in real life (just my mom, actually) so knitting blogs make me feel a little connected to people who share my interests. I don’t really “go steady” with many knitting blogs… but yours is one I keep coming back to! ๐Ÿ™‚

  54. I like knitting blogs because I find them so inspiring. I love seeing what other people are working on because it makes me want to push myself and make more and try more. I’ve just started my own craft blog but mostly as a way to stay in touch and feel like I’m still crafting with my sister in law who lives 800 miles away.

  58. I’m still relatively new to knitting (coming up on my one-year anniversary!) so blogs are immensely helpful to me because they not only provide me with inspiration and a laundry list of things to make, but they often also provide helpful tutorials and the like that teach me new skills to improve my knitting!

Also, I know I’ve said this before, but your Miette was the very first sweater I decided to knit!

  60. Even though I’m not finishing many knits lately, I love seeing what others are knitting. I especially love posts where knitting is shown after lots of wear, to determine yarn durability. It’s always so helpful! And I love to see knits styled in way s that I would actually wear them.

Like yours, you always have great style with your knits (and in general!). Happy birthday to the blog!
