Not My FO

ma1

My mom just finished this crocheted afghan and it looked too pretty sitting on that chair to not share it.

She’s been working on it for a couple years now. My mom doesn’t spend as much time crafting as I do and she’s also very meticulous. She’ll rip out 30 rows to fix one little detail so it takes her awhile to get anything done. Her work is pretty impressive when it’s finished. I admire her patience, but I think I’ll stick with my “no one will ever notice that mistake” style of crafting.

  1. It’s beautiful! Well done mom!

  2. Wow I love the design! And the colors are so pretty together 🙂

  3. I’m with your mom. I’d rip out a bunch of rows to get to a mistake. The mistake only stays if I’ve woven in all the ends.

  4. Your mum is like my mum, who is also like all the mums of people at my knit night. Not super fast, but really meticulous and determined. Perhaps it’s just a mum-of-a-knitter thing?

I love the colours in the afghan. It looks great.
As for ripping back, it soo tough to decide sometimes. I usually try to convince myself it’s a tiny mistake and no one will notice, but a lot of the times it doesn’t work and I’ll rip back. Than I’m in a sour mood craft vise for days, or at least until I re-knit/crochet what I’ve ripped.

  6. Wow that is an amazing afghan I’ve always wanted to do one but I don’t think I have the patience yet.

  7. That is gorgeous – well done to your mama.

I’m with you though – if it doesn’t pull my eye and irk the stuffin’ out of me, I’m leaving it. No one will notice it but me… if it pulls my attention though, I’ll rip it out like your mama and fix it.

  8. I love the color combo! and your first photo of it looks catalog-worthy 🙂

  10. Wow, your mom’s crochet is beautiful! I love the colors she chose.

  11. She has quite the eye for color! I love it! Do you know if she used a pattern, or did she just wing it? It’s much more interesting than plain ol’ ripple afghans.

I know she used a pattern, but I forget where it came from.

I’m with you on the “I’ll hope no one will notice” with tiny mistakes. If they aren’t too visible or disturbing I’ll leave them there telling myself that they add to the charm of whatever is handmade!
