My First FO

Oh, hey! Remember me? I kind of dropped off the face of the blog planet but I’m back. My room is still in the WIP stage. It’s all painted and all of my furniture has been moved in but I still have a ton of stuff that needs to be put away. I’m unfortunately a hoarder so everything has to be sorted through before I can pack it away. I just have too much stuff.

The nice thing about sorting through my old stuff is finding old craft projects. I’m going to try to get some of them nicely photographed so that I can share them with you. One of the things I found was my first FO. Here it is.

It’s your basic garter stitch scarf. I knit it with Lion Brand Jiffy Thick and Quick because I had the patience of a goldfish. I had started other scarves at finer gauges but this was the first one I finished.

I picked the color way out because my mom had been crocheting an afghan for my sister with the same yarn and I got yarn envy. That was lucky because I ran out of yarn before it was long enough and my mom had leftovers from the afghan. We worked on our projects together while watching Lord of the Rings. It was pleasant.

I added fringe because I thought scarves were supposed to have fringe. I knit this in middle school. I don’t think I put fringe on scarves again after this.

  1. heheh heaven forbid I ever find my first attempt at a scarf! UGH! you would understand: worsted yarn on size 4 needles. What was my grandma thinking?? heheheIt's super cute! do you wear it? 🙂

  2. Isn't it odd how learn to knit books seem to have scarves as starter projects? Definitely not an instant gratification project. Yours looks great! Impressive for a first FO.

  3. I love the colors, and I would totally still wear it if I were you!@Sara: I think scarves are good for a first project – they may not be done so quickly, but they give you lots of opportunity for practice before moving on to more complicated things 🙂

  4. I can't even remember my first knitting project. Although I do recall the horror of trying to knit my first pair of mitts in middle school!

  5. My first knitting project was a scarf as well. The shop I went to suggested ribbon yarn. Ribbon yarn of all things! For a new knitter. I love knitting and watching LOTR too. Your first FO looks pretty darn good.

  6. i have tried knitting so many times but i have failed each time! great scarf! thanks for you comment, great blof, following :)xx

  7. Oh man, this is ten times better than my first project, which was a fun fur boa with lots of accidental design features (read: holes). OH PS: I followed your comment from my blog (spinnyknits) here, and I'm glad I did!
