For my second version of Hetty, I’m planning on using Berroco Blackstone Tweed again because I loved the way my first one turned out. Most importantly, I’ll be knitting mine in “Pitch.” It’s a really dark charcoal grey and just what my wardrobe needs. I frequently find myself wishing that I had a dark grey cropped cardigan, but I usually go for more colorful yarns because grey doesn’t show off stitch patterns very well. Plus, you don’t exactly have to twist my arm to get me to use a more colorful yarn. But since I already have a colorful, cheery green version, now seemed like a good time to finally get a grey cropped cardigan added to my collection!
Because I’ve already knit a swatch for this pattern in a different color, I’m going to be lazy and skip knitting a new one, but I wanted to say that it’s really important to knit a swatch and wash and block it if you use the recommended yarn. I knit a little sample from a scrap to show you the difference between the blocked and unblocked knitting. The unblocked swatch is pretty scraggly looking, and the gauge is slightly smaller. The blocked swatch bloomed and got a bit of a hallow. Its gauge matches the gauge given in the pattern. Don’t skip these steps or you may have a rude surprise when you block your finished sweater.
