Dog Friends

Every time I go outside to take blog pictures, I end up snapping a few of Bean and Britta’s dog, Bjorn. They’re too cute.

I think Bjorn likes having a dog friend around, but Bean isn’t settling in to Seattle as well as I had hoped. She’s gotten pretty unfriendly around to new people and hates one of my cousins. I’m hoping that she’ll go back to loving everyone in sight once we’ve been here a bit longer.

Moving can be really tough for animals. I noticed right after our recent move that our rattie Mac was a lot more skittish and unfriendly for several weeks – and he’s a rat! I imagine that adjustment is even harder and more prolonged for dogs. I bet that with time Bean will settled into her new routines and become a lovebug once again. Either way, she’s a cutie!

Sometimes animals have a problem adjusting to different sensory input– from the looks of things on your blog, Bean went from country-living to city-life; she might just need a bit of time without new smells and sounds. Does she have a crate? Those can function like “rooms” for pups– places where they can go to feel secure– even (or especially) when they’re not used like cages.

    Hope fully she’ll adjust soon!

You’ve got that right. She doesn’t have a crate and never has had one, so I’m not sure how she would do with that. Right now she has a little cave, though. Her bed that she’s had for years is tucked away in my room under a table so she has a little hidey-hole that is her own space.

Aww, poor pup. I’m sorry Bean isn’t adjusting very well. I hope that changes soon!
