2009 in Photos

The year in random pictures! Pictures of knits are in the month where I finished them instead of the month the photo was taken.

It was a good year. The second half was better than the first but it still was good. I got a lot of knitting done. More than what you see here because I can be bad about photographing my knitting. Hopefully I’ll be better about it next year! Happy New Year!

Merry Christmas!

IMGP1197

Here’s a little “Christmas Spirit” for you on Christmas day! A breakfast place near my Uni calls this drink “Christmas Spirit”. It’s a white chocolate peppermint mocha.

I hope you have a happy holiday.

Merry Christmas, everyone!

Christmas Eve

IMGP1095

I love Christmas eve. My family has a tradition of opening one present on Christmas eve. We spend most of the day lounging around, watching movies. It’s awesome.

I hope everyone has a nice Christmas eve with the people that they love.

Tacky Holiday Sweaters

My neighbor always has a Christmas party and she has the sort of friends that go crazy over stuffed Santas and light up snowman figurines. They’re delightfully tacky. My sister and I always plan on buying tacky holiday sweaters for my neighbor’s party but we always forget. This year we remembered but we couldn’t find any sweaters… What did we find?

Tacky holiday sweatshirts. Oh yeah. Okay, so they’re kind of cute but they’re still a bit tacky!

I’m wearing: Boots: Dr. Martens – Skirt: By Me – Sweatshirt: K-mart – Wool Tights: Smartwool – Necklace: H&M
Britta is wearing: Paddock Boots: Ariat – Jeans: ? – Sweatshirt: K-mart – Hat: By Me

We wore them out to get our Christmas tree and to the party later that day. We’re so cool. =P

Blue Flowers

About a year ago my sister bought me two skeins of yarn to make her hats with. I told her I’d make one right away and the other, well it might take until August because I was working on a sweater. It actually took me until October to do it. Oops.

I waited until now to take the FO pictures because Britta came home for Christmas and I wanted the pictures with her wearing it.

bflow3

I knit it without a pattern with Cascade 220. I couldn’t figure out what to knit because my sister didn’t know what she wanted. I made a basic hat with ear flaps and added crocheted and knit flowers after I was done.

We took the FO pictures while we were out looking for a Christmas tree. We have coordinating tacky Christmas sweaters. More about those later.

TDR

This was my first top down raglan with out using a pattern. Apparently I have trouble deciding when things are really finished because I was done with this sweater in October but I was trying to decide if I wanted to rip it out and re-knit the bottom. Below freezing weather made me decide that my cozy sweater was fine being a little imperfect.

tdr4

I knit it with Cascade 220. It was hard to decide how deep to make the armpits because I wanted it to sit off my shoulder so I had to redo the yoke sooo many times.

tdr3tdr5

After I finished, I thought I could only wear this with jeans or a denim skirt because it’s so slouchy and casual. I tried it on with my full skirt. It looks just fine. I think I was being too critical because, well, it isn’t perfect. It isn’t horrible, but it isn’t perfect. That’s fine by me. It just took me awhile to accept that. I kind of love it now.

My Basic Purse

purse1

This is the third incarnation of this purse. I made a similar one as a present for a friend when I was a junior in high school. I made some changes that suit my own purse habits and made myself this version of the bag. It still had problems (like I didn’t put a zipper in it… Don’t ask me why because I couldn’t tell you) so I made a third one out of heavier fabric with a zipper. It was a neutral green and butter yellow tiny leopard print. I loved that purse so much. It was my favorite purse ever. Oddly, I have no pictures of it that I can find. At this time in my life, I was going to a lot of metal and punk shows and the purse was perfect for mosh pits. It fit nicely into my armpit so I could protect my stuff from getting too crushed and the zipper kept everything from falling out. It died a long drawn out death. First, I had sewn unfinished seams too closely to edge in some places and the outer fabric frayed in some places so that the seams came apart. The lining held just fine so I safety pinned the outer seams where they were especially bad and just ignored the problem. Next, I had (and still have) a habit of carrying around pens in my purse. That’s not a bad thing unless you also carry your purse into mosh pits… I think you can guess where this is going. I had a pen break in my purse in a pit and it bled ink all over the lining of my purse and some soaked through to the outside. Despite all of this, I kept using that purse. It finally was considered dead when my friend whipped around a corner in her car and her coffee came flying out of the cup holder onto me and my purse. My whole purse was coffee stained. I finally retired it.

Last year I took the dead purse apart and used it as a template to make my current version of the purse. The colors are a bit odd for me. I’m not really a brown person, but I saw this fabric and the lining fabric together in the craft store and fell in love.

The lining is super cute and has random crap on it like animals, plants, artsy blobs, cups and fans. I love it. Unfortunately I still carry around pens and I had a hard time finding a spot in the lining where there weren’t little pen marks. Oh well.

Cheating

IMGP1125

The other day it was hardcore windy out so I wanted to put my hair up. I attempted to french braid it and was successful for the third time ever. Unfortunately my hair is still fairly short so it looked a bit messy in the back where I tried to twist the braid ends out of sight. I went and asked my roommate if the back was messy-good or messy-bad. She said “Why don’t you put those flowers in back or a bow or something?” So I did. It’s the best kind of cheating The clips hid the messy bit and helped secure my hair even more against the wind.

On a less interesting note, I’ve started finals and then I’m going home to my parents’ house. Blog updates might be less frequent for a while. I’m not sure what I’ll be up to. I”m going to try to set up some auto updates because I have lots of stuff saved to post about that I haven’t gotten to because I’ve been too busy with end-of-the-semester crap. We’ll see what happens.

Nice to Meet You

IMGP4790

Dear Audience:

Hi there! I have no idea who you are or if I even have an audience. I’d like to meet you. I’d also like to find some new blogs to read. To kill two birds, leave me a comment introducing yourself with a link to your blog and I’ll check it out. I’m curious to see who reads this and what they blog about. So, even if you just run across this post, leave me a link to your blog.

Love,
Andi

Disclaimer: Not only does that picture have nothing to do with this post, but it is from last year. It hasn’t snowed here yet. This post just looked naked without a photo.

H&M Sweater

knit
Cabled Sweater: H&M – Spotty Dress: Talbots – Wool Tights: Smart Wool – Knitting: Dapper #2

Once upon a time, I saw this sweater on a cute Swedish blogger. I had no idea where it came from so I saved a picture of it so that I could knit it and I spent some time flipping through my stitchionary picking out cables. I went home to my parents, planning on buying green worsted weight from my LYS. Before I went to the LYS, I made a visit our local H&M and what do I see on sale? The sweater. What are the odds? My Dad bought it for me for my birthday. I love it. I might still knit my own version of it in a different color with a bigger variety of cables.

I like this picture. I took it on accident when I was setting my timer.
